This course is designed to support and facilitate student development of an excellent standard of professional communication and interpersonal skills that will enhance both clinical and operational performance as a prehospital healthcare professional. As this course is learner-centred you will generate much of your own meaning and understandings yourself as you explore the course material with the lecturer and your student peers. In addition to learning about communication and interaction theories, progression through the course will encompass personal reflection upon your own communication and interpersonal skills, emotional intelligence, and teamwork skills, making the course material highly personalised and customisable for each student. You will engage in self-analysis with an aim to achieving personal improvement in these areas that will provide you with a strong foundation of professionalism upon which to base your career progression.

Assessments:

There are several assessment activities throughout this course, in a mix of individual and group work. These are summarised on the Assessments page of this website, where further information including the tools used and due dates may also be found. I will be producing video discussions on each assessment task shortly and will post these to the Assessments page.

Feedback:

Throughout this course you will encounter several brief student feedback polls, each of only two or three questions. These anonymous polls enable you to share what you like or don't like about aspects of the course, such as the website layout and design, the teaching methods used, and so on. Please take the minute or so to complete these polls so that I can best provide the teaching and support that you as a group require - every student is different, and student group preferences change from semester to semester, and by sharing during the course what you do and don't like I am able to tailor my teaching to best suit your learning styles and particular needs.

Online Learning Environment:

This website is your online learning environment for this course; in other words, your virtual classroom. I have designed this to be as user-friendly and intuitive to navigate as possible, and have also incorporated a master index of pages in the sidebar to the right of your screen for immediate access to relevant sections. There is a forum associated with this course that is hosted upon a separate website platform, and links to this forum are available at the bottom of each week's page; eg. at the bottom of week one is the link to the forum page for that week's content and discussion postings.
